Source:
A new photo-driven catalytic system enables efficient ammonia synthesis at ambient temperature and pressure. It accelerates the nitrogen-hydrogen reaction via the optical response of nanoparticles, with an ammonia production rate of about 60 μmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹. This provides a green alternative to cut carbon emissions in the ammonia industry and is expected to reshape the traditional high-energy-consumption ammonia synthesis process.
