RADIAL FLOW REACTOR

It is applied in the synthesis of methane-rich gas with hydrocarbon (Light oil, naphtha, LPG, light hydrocarbon, hydrocarbon-containing dry gas etc.) and steam as raw materials. The resulted gas can be further used to produce hydrogen, syngas with different CO/H2 ratio (for the synthesis of methanol or ammonia etc.) and coal gas.

CENTER PIPE
Center pipe is a cylindrical element placed in the radial flow reactor center to collect or to distribute flow.It will be installed through manhole on top of the vessel and will be supported to maintain in its position.
when flow direction is inward though the center pipe,process flow will have highest temperature &highest concentration after reaction at center pipe location,so it will come from highest grade of stainless steel material such as SS.321/SS.347 or nickel base alloy steel such as Inconel 600/625.
Gas flow and pressure drop through the catalyst bed are required process conditions to define diameter,length and perforation ratio meanwhile catalyst weight,axial and radial loads are key parameters for mechanical strength calculation against burst and collapse forces.

Center pipe will come from a combination of a smooth V-Wire screen layer with vertical wires as outer layer in contact with catalyst assembled on a perforated cylinder as inner support.
Perpendicularity of center pipe than vessel cross section,smooth outer surface,regular arrangement of holes and high precision slots are some key characters in fabrication of center pipes.

OUTER BASKET
Outer basket is the outer internal component of radial flow reactor whichis concentric by center pipe.It has a little distance with vessel inside wall that allows flow to swirl and come through in or out.The outer basket will come from one single piece construction method that has to be installed over the full vessel cross section so it should be installed inside reactor before welding of top head.
Outer basket is self-standing on a support ring attached to vessel inside wall.Annular space between that and center pipe on top of the bed will be blinded by cover plate assembly.

SCALLOPS
Scallops is an assembly of D-shaped segments which extend parallel to vessel height where the outer surface of each scallop willbe tangent to vessel inner walland the inner surface will show bed criteria.
Each scallops will be passed though manhole while in totala assembly each scallop will be placed adjacent to side one.They are self-standing on a support ring attached to vessel inside wall and will be fixed by an expander ring in required levels.
Annular space between that and center pipe on top of the bed will be blinded by cover plate assembly.
Gas flow and pressure drop through the catalyst are required process conditions to define required cross section area,length and perforation ratio meanwhile catalyst weight,axial&radial loads are key parameters for mechanical strength calculation against burst and collapse forces.
Since scallops will have contact with vessel inner wall,in case of high temperature operations,due to avoid hot spots on the vessel shll,maybe some refractory of liner materials applied on the vessel inner shell.
Because of easier installation/maintenance and increasing catalyst volume,scallops will be preferred to old outer baskets design.
